Claiming Your Seat at the Table

By Dr. Sharon Powell

If you’re feeling overlooked or underqualified, it’s easy to let that sense of inadequacy seep into your self-worth. You might question your abilities, your place in your career, school, or even in your personal life. However, remember that your true worth isn’t dictated by titles or others’ approval—it is an inherent truth, a God-given gift that resides within you.

You don’t need someone else to validate your existence or your contributions. You belong, simply because you are. Every individual has their unique purpose and value, and you are no exception. It’s time to stop waiting for permission to claim your seat at the table and recognize that your presence isn’t just welcomed; it is necessary.

Here are three daily affirmations or spiritual principles to remind you that you are already Somebody:

  1. I Am Enough: Repeat this powerful affirmation daily. Remind yourself that you are enough just as you are, with all your unique qualities, experiences, and potential. You don’t have to fit into someone else’s definition of success to be worthy.
  2. My Voice Matters: Embrace the truth that your thoughts, ideas, and feelings are valuable. Speak up and share your perspectives, whether in meetings, discussions, or casual conversations. The world needs your insights; they add richness and depth to the collective understanding.
  3. I Am Fearfully and Wonderfully Made: This spiritual principle, drawn from Psalm 139:14, emphasizes the intentionality of your creation. Recognize that you are designed with purpose and care, and that you possess unique talents and gifts just waiting to be embraced and shared.

By incorporating these affirmations and principles into your daily life, you will begin to see your inherent worth and realize that you belong every time you step into a room. So, take a deep breath, sit up tall, and claim your seat at the table. You are already Somebody, and the world is richer with you in it.
